Included in the chart are:
- Pictures of the Beard Trimmer
- Trimmer brand and model
- Range of the length of hair that the trimmer can handle – if you have a neat, short beard then this is less important, but for longer beards, some shavers can’t cope with longer hair.
- Price – these are approximate prices on Amazon.com. These often change based on special offers, promotions, availability and season. To help you, I’ve grouped the pricing on this matrix with $=under $30, $$=$30 to $50, $$$=$50 to $80, $$$$=$80+
- Rating – the average user rating on Amazon.com which is another great way to see what other buyers think of the product

The beard trimmers on this chart are only the most popular or highly rated shavers available on the market. There are literally hundreds and there’s no way we can list them all.
Top Features To Look Out For
Some beard trimmers have special attachments that let you trim your sideburns, nose or ear hair. There are models others are designed to work with shaving foam in the wet, in case you want to shave in the shower. And plenty of models now feature pivoting heads that follow the contours of your face as you shave or trim your beard. To avoid mess and hair clippings, look for a model with an integrated vacuum system that sucks up the clippings as you shave (the Norelco QT4050 is a good example).
One really important feature of any beard trimmer is the battery: not only how long the battery charge lasts for but also how long it’ll take to charge up (many have a quick-charge feature so you don’t have to wait hours when you discover there’s no charge left just before you leave for work!)
Full charge time on some trimmers can be up to eight or more hours, but the newer high-spec models often not only have a quick charge (to provide enough power for a shave) but also fully charge in an hour or less.
Adjustable Shaving Head
Older trimmers and shavers had a fixed, stationary head. These still work well but because the shaving head doesn’t tilt or move, it doesn’t follow the contours of your face effectively so can irritate the skin and not provide such a close, smooth shave as a model with a movable or adjustable shaving head.
Take a look at the latest models from Philips Norelco or Braun which feature movable shaving heads so follow your face shape and provide a cleaner, closer, shave. Some advanced trimmers, such as the Philips Norelco BG2040 BodyGroom Pro, have a head that moves in 3D giving the closest shave or trim possible.
Shaver Head Attachments
Almost all trimmers and electric shavers come with a range of attachments that snap into place on the head of the razor. These provide specialist trimming tools to tackle nose and ear hair, body grooming or finer control of beard or mustache trimming.
Unfortunately, there are no standards for trimmer attachments (unlike, say, a USB port on your laptop) so an attachment from one shaver won’t normally work on another brand or model.
There are so many different models and varieties of beard trimmers, I’ve written this site and guides to help you find the best one for your needs. If you’re wondering how you should go about choosing the best beard trimmer for you, follow my reviews and you’ll read about the different features, pros and cons of models – and what to look out for when buying a new trimmer. Best of all, I’ve found some great discounts to the prices available on the web, so you’ll save as you shop.Last updated: August 14, 2014 at 10:49 am
